Chapter 17

After reading chapter 17 I found it interesting learning about all the different industrial revolutions. I was also not surprised to read that it had more or less had stated in Europe due to its society, history, and culture. I was also found the map explaining all the different railroad pathways and major industrial areas to be quite intriguing. Also learning that the middle class was the one that most benefited from industrialization was very eye-opening. Lastly, the thing that really caught my eye was the poster explaining the socialist perspective on capitalist societies. Not only was it the way of the system but the illustration was quite interesting to look at and the labels describing each social class was also quite interesting.

Chapter 16 (Part 2) & Documents

In the final part of the chapter, it was interesting and eye-opening, seeing how slavery was ended and I also learned something new, the antislavery medallion was something that intrigued me since I have never of it and or since a picture of it. Another thing I found intriguing was the beginning of Feminist, although I am not feminist it always feels good to hear when a female or a group of females stood up for equality for us females. I mean part of the reason why woman today can vote and not have to stay home and just be brought done is due to them. Also hearing about Kartini had to be my favorite reading thus far, I love reading about an empowered woman.

Intro to Part 5 & Chapter 16 (Part 1)

My take away from the Intro to part 5 and the first part of Chapter 16 was mostly how the Europeans were rising and how they continued to rise. That was what I got from the Intro to Part 5 but for the first part of Chapter 16, I was not only intrigued by the picture of the cover because it wasn't until I read the caption that I realized what it symbolized. But otherwise, then that, I was shocked to hear about the Haitian Revolution because I had never heard of it and it was interesting to read about the violence and racial dimension towards the French soldiers.

Foundresses Week

I participated in playing connect four with both my friends and with a few strangers, which was located in the student success center booth. I was also able to participate in taking pictures with my friends in the photo booth which was pretty much fun because there were props and things for us to use. I would have to say the thing I learned or was able to see was peoples willings to help others and the wanting to give back/help the community.

SND

It was very interesting to read about both Julie Billiart, since you know one of our buildings is named after her. It was also interesting to read about Francoise Blin de Bourdon. First, it was interesting to hear about both their upbringings and then to see how they each choose the path they did. It was also very interesting to hear/read how they came to together despite the differences and the different challenges and obstacles that would get the way. But in the end, it was great to hear that they came to together to create something pretty amazing.

Chapter 15

Well by the title of the chapter I could see it was going to talk about the two most controversial subject which is sciences and religion. What I got from the first part, which talked about religion, was the different way Christianity went around in different countries. What I mean by that is Christianity affected a certain country a certain way. As for the second part, which spoke about science, the thing that most stuck to me was when I read the fragment that talked about where Galileo Galilei reflected on both science and religion.

Chapter 14 (second half) + Chapter 14 documents

This chapter just continued by talking about trade, but in this part, I got that it was talking about the slave trade. Again, looking at both the maps and the graphs was a very great way to visualize the numbers and the routes. The part where it talked about Ayuba Suleiman Diallo was also a great and interesting part to read and understand what was going on. As for the documents what I got from it was about the status of people and how they would inherit it or how they would reach such status.

Chapter 14 (first half)

I felt very frustrated with this chapter because I felt like the reading was a lot for me, mostly because it was the first time reading a big chunk but I hope to get better. But besides that my takeaways from this chapter was learning about the trades, especially the spice trade, fur trade, and the silver trade. I found the small part where it went into the Mountain of Silver pretty interesting, another note would be the maps were great visual to understand the trading routes.

Chapter 13

I read this chapter before coming into this class, therefore what I both remember reading and remember from the last semester it was a good refresher to know the rising empires during those times which I believe was the European empire, Russian Empire, and the Asian Empire. I felt relieved knowing that I knew a few things but it was also good seeing the dates as confusing as they may be.

Intro to Part 4

With reading this I got to get a well-rounded idea about what the following chapters will be about. Such as the trading routes and other such things that modernized the world. It was also very frustrating to want to understand everything knowing that I won't be able to understand everything.
