Intro to Six + Chapter 20

The intro to part six most around the most recent events of the century, mostly focusing 1914-2015. It talked about the World Wars, Revolution, Socialism, and many other events that shaped the Global Stage in which we live today. What I got out of Chapter 20 was that it talked about World War I, also known as "The Great War", it speaks about how it started and what countries were allies. Although I heard from perverse history classes it was still interesting to read about how "The Great War" affect the woman and how they had to step up. Also seeing how Europe and the Middle East were affected after World War I and how others were affected after World War II. I have also learned about The Great Depression in perves history classes but to actually see a chart of how industrial productions dropped was eye-opening. Finally reading about a witness of the Holocaust, Etty Hillesum, was very interesting as though not only was she able to write about what happened but what also seeing it from a woman's perspective.

When I was reading this chapter I felt overwhelmed and well-informed from learning about all the global factors. The first thing the chapter pulls up with is how the global economy has changed, clearly, the economy was messed up and scrambled after World War 1 and World War II and lets did not forget how the Great Depression really messed up the system. Therefore to fix this a lot of globalization that needed to happen and as we can see on the map on page 1027, the United States, Canada, China, Japan, and many other countries were part of the global distribution of investments, these investments were from 4,000 up to 200,000. There was also the section that spoke about how feminism, it was especially interesting to hear about feminism in the south seeing as though the women in the Latin culture are very much under-appreciated and used, therefore I can see why starting movements would be hard to start down in south sense men like to belittle women. Chapter 18 + Documents

I believe it was in this chapter that we say the two phases in which Europeans either conquered or colonized. In phase one, the Europeans conquered what was the north and south of America. It was the Spain/Portugal, Britain, France, and Russia who used companies to get these countries and conquer them. It was a permanent displacement of Native people and populations. In phase two we see that Asia, Africa, and Oceana (Australia) are colonized, in fact, there was a scramble for Africa. Scramble Africa was the act of many European countries wanting to take some part of Africa because of there resources, those resources being the people and the natural resources the earth had to offer. There was also the fact that many of the European companies had missionaries who were there to simply administrate the land and then leave but then there were the European people who did stay long-term. Chapter 19

This chapter was interesting in the way that I was finally to see how China fit into the modern era. They believed they were the superior country and it's almost weird to see the certain types of crisis they had throughout this seeing as though they have always believed to be superior and had always thrived in the trading of silk. It was interesting to read about the Opium trade the, first seeing as though I didn't know what Opium was and learning about it, and secondly learn about the addiction problem it brought to China. The comparison between China and the Ottoman Empire was almost amazing to see how similar they were civilization was but it was there falling that was the biggest contrast. It was also interesting to hear that Japna was better at transforming into modernization than China was, and not only transforming but being able to keep it that way.
